I am the owner of Midwest Medical Billing company, and as such, I am very busy and looked to find a personal trainer to help motivate me and get me on the right track. I was given the recommendation of AJ by a trusted friend, and I was very glad I used him. AJ exceeded my expectations in every way. I had hired other personal trainers in the past, but I knew right away that AJ had a whole different approach. He tailored my workout plan to my lifestyle and abilities so well that it became the part of my day I most looked forward to, instead of dreading my workout. AJ is an amazing trainer. He was my trainer for almost 4 month and during that time I lost 70 pounds! Sometimes we would box or run or even swim! AJ is a beast of a trainer! I owe my current obsession with boxing/kickboxing and the conditioning that goes with it to him. He’s tough (I of course mean that as a compliment!), has a good work ethic, and has a lot of versatility to offer (boxing, cardio, weights, cross fit, basketball, ...). AJ engages with people at all fitness levels, challenges them appropriately, and is so much fun to train with. I first met AJ 8 months ago in South Carolina. I had travelled South to help acquire a healthier state of mind & lose some weight to boot! I was the heaviest i'd ever been and was nervous that it had the potential to keep going. I knew i didnt have the healthiest lifestyle so went in search of help. AJ is a consummate professional, kind & definitely pushes you. At first, some of the moves or exercises he gave me to do, my eyes did a little cartoon bug out: "really, I can't do that!" But he has a way about him that encourages you to just try. And then you do it! All of a sudden you're standing there after huffing and puffing immensely proud of what you were able to accomplish all because he saw it in you & knew you could do it. I've enjoyed AJ's training sessions so much that I went back again and plan to keep travelling back to see him. One last story: I never thought i'd like boxing, maybe it was a girl thing - didnt really want to hit - but AJ was previously a professional boxer with the belts to prove it; he taught me how do to it properly & gave me a workout that i'll never forget. My name is Rachelle and I trained with AJ for 6 weeks. Throughout my life I have had many trainers but AJ is definitely one of my favourites. When I met AJ I was 30 years old and in such a rut. I had become the heaviest I had ever been at 179lbs. Needless to say my confidence level was at an all time low. I didn't like going out in public very much as I was embarrassed by how I looked. From the get go AJ was very encouraging. He pushed me to do workouts that I never thought I could do and through the whole workout we would be cheering you on which would help me dig deep and keep pushing through the pain. Throughout my years of having all different trainers, I have never had one like AJ. He genuinely cares about all his clients and I knew I could talk to him about anything. He was not only my trainer but also a friend. Now AJ doesn't mess around when it comes to workouts. He definitely pushed me and catered workouts to my goals and areas I wanted to work on. He has such a vast knowledge on all things fitness and diet which is a great combination. He knows his stuff and you can tell how passionate he is about what he does. He would explain the importance of specific exercises and would cater around injuries or limitations. His workouts were always different which for me was what I loved. He also always made working out fun. I have never laughed so much with a trainer. I couldn't recommend AJ enough as a trainer. It is a decision you would never regret. He helped me reach my goals of losing 20 lbs and helped me get my confidence back. I am forever grateful to him and what he has done for me. He had helped me gain a new lease on life. Alton Staley is a very personable Trainer, I felt very comfortable from the moment I met him. He pushes you and believes in you even when your at the point of not believing in yourself. I accomplished so much in the four months I worked out with him he pushed me like no previous trainer ever has. He showed me so many different types of workouts for when I left to go home. And even after I left he has been available to help with questions when ever I needed it. I have recently had the opportunity to do some personal training with AJ. I can not speak highly enough of the knowledge and skill set he brings to the gym. As well as how hard he pushes his clients, for the best results. Each training session that I completed with AJ was different than the previous. AJ continuously had me doing different work outs. From running, lifting weights, footwork, and boxing; each session was completely different. My workouts were always outside of the box, never the typical day in the gym. The best part of working with AJ was his constant encouragement. Each personal training session, he stood right beside me, counting out repetitions, pushing me harder, giving me encouragement the entire time. He never gave up believing that I could do it. In the conclusion of my personal training with AJ, I was able to walk away knowing that I was stronger and healthier. Because AJ pushed so hard, and encouraged me to give my best, I know the ability I have. I would highly recommend AJ for personal training!! Last winter, I had the opportunity to spend two months in Hilton Head and train with AJ. While my goal was to quit smoking, lose weight and get healthy; the reason for my journey was to escape the holidays due to the recent death of my husband. I found in AJ the perfect “Coach”. He kept me motivated, taught me new ways to work out that were actually fun and even taught me how to prepare my food in a more healthy way. AJ also became a friend, he allowed me to talk about my problems, but never let me use them as a crutch. His desire to see me succeed in my quest, made me look forward to our workout sessions. I lost nearly 30 pounds and about 25 inches. My stamina increased and I physically felt better than I had in years. AJ always stressed the necessity of warming up before and after a session as well as doing the workouts utilizing the proper form. While I often left our sessions with aches and pains…I never once suffered an injury. Often we utilized the various equipment that can be found in any neighborhood gym, but my favorite sessions involved his boxing classes (I should tell you that I am 60 years old)…and water polo (I am also not a very good swimmer). AJ never let that hold me back. I would still be working out with AJ on a regular basis if I didn’t live so far away…I have met several personal trainers, but it would be difficult for me to say that I have met a better trainer. My first experience with a trainer/coach happened when my daughter and I decided to celebrate our landmark birthdays....mine was age 80. I had never had done any formal exercise training before. Fortunately we found someone who was able to max my abilities within the limits of numerous health concerns ( heart bypass, cancer recovery, diabetic, pulmonary hypertension, arthritis, osteoporosis, etc.). By 81 I have some of everything. AJ was extremely encouraging and with his wise choice of activities was able to direct my progress which was the loss of 3.5 pounds in 8.5 days. (Never broke a sweat because of the heart meds.) Even better, I lost the weight in the places I wanted, and other spots too. Exercise focused on strengthening back muscles has helped my back issues. Flexibility also improved. Best of all, was loss of flab on the "old lady" arms. Still have some work to do there but because of AJ, I have had success, and encouragement to keep at it. (AJ would drill us to be sure we remembered exercises to do at home.) I have added some muscle which has helped keep the weight loss gradually continuing. AJ is a kind taskmaster and will push you to your max...and because of his extensive background and experience he will know better than you what you are capable of.
